Dr. Ethan An
BMedSc (SYD), MBBS Hons (SYD), DipCH (SYD), FRACGP
Dr Ethan An completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 2008, graduating with Honours. He then trained at Westmead Hospital and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. He has a Diploma in Child Health and gained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2014. Dr An enjoys all aspects of general practice, from paediatrics, geriatrics, women’s and men’s health as well as preventative medicine. He is married with a young daughter, and enjoys photography and travel.
Dr Ethan An joined the practice in Mid August 2018, working full time across Mon/Tue/Thur/Friday.
Dr. Cathie Anderson

Dr Cathie Anderson is an honours graduate of Sydney University. She also has a Masters degree in Family Medicine from Monash University, a certificate of Family Planning from FPA, is a member of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and has been a certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She has also done further training in mental health.
Cathie provides comprehensive medical care for patients of all ages, with her care extending from newborns with their parents, to providing home visits to the elderly in the local aged care facilities. Her focus is on helping her patients achieve their best possible health.
Her special interests include infant feeding (particularly breastfeeding), women’s and children’s health and also mental health issues.
She really enjoys providing long term healthcare of her patients, which often involves looking after several generations of families.
Cathie is also the wife of Dr John Delaney, the mother of five sons, and the grandmother of five. She enjoys being physically active, and also creates quilts in her spare time.

Dr. Karen Avory
BMBS BmedSci, MRCGP, FRACGP, DRCOG, DSFRH
Dr Avory joined the practice in February 2018.
She is now available Monday evenings, Wednesdays and Fridays.
She completed her undergraduate training in England at the University of Nottingham and GP training in Manchester. In England she worked as a GP in both Manchester and London and completed further diplomas in women’s health, family planning and paediatrics.
She began working in Australia in Perth WA in 2011 and participated in a further diploma in Women’s health at King Edward Memorial Hospital, as well as a certificate in family planning with the Family Planning Association of Western Australia.
Dr Avory relocated to Sydney in 2013 with her husbands work and has since had 3 children as well as working in a few diverse locations as a GP. She is passionate about all aspects of general practice but still enjoys focusing on her interests in women’s health and paediatrics. She also has a keen and developing interest in lifestyle challenge, mental health and chronic disease.
Most recently she has followed up on her experience in teaching. Recently taking undergraduates from the University of Western Sydney and embarking on a role with the University of Notre Damn and postgraduate medical students.
For something different Dr Avory worked with ITV and Granada studios in England for shows such as Coronation Street, I’m a Celebrity and Countdown. She would like to do more media work one day.
In her time outside of work she is kept busy with her young family and interests in sport and nutrition.
Dr. Ivor Burfitt
MSc(Hons) PhD MBBS (UQ)
After working in scientific research Dr Burfitt studied Medicine at the University of Queensland and had been part of Seaforth Medical Centre since 1989, before SFMC moved into Sydney Road Family Medical Practice. His interest are in aspect of general medical care with application of computer technology to medicine. He is actively involved with the training of our GP Registrars.
Dr Burfitt consults Mondays to Thursdays, and one in three Saturday mornings
Dr. Helen Chriss
MBBS(Hons) FRACGP, Dip Paed, Cert Fam Planning, Clincal Dip Palliative Med
Dr. Helen Chriss has been working in Balgowlah for over 25 years and has special interests in Paediatrics, Womens’ Health and Palliative Care. In addition to her general practice, Dr Chriss provides specialist care as a Visiting Medical Officer at Bear Cottage Paediatric Palliative Care Unit in Manly and in-patient Adult Palliative care at Manly Waters Private Hospital.
Dr Chriss is passionate about teaching and is involved with teaching medical students and GP registrars
Dr Chriss has lived on the Lower North Shore most of her life and is the proud mother of two adult sons. She enjoys contributing to her local and professional community, keeping fit, travelling and is bilingual (English/Greek).
Dr Chriss consults Monday to Thursdays, and some Saturdays.
Dr. Patrick Davis
Bsc(Hons), MBCHB, FRACGP, Cert Primary Skin Cancer Medicine
Patrick has special interests in Complex General Medicine, Mental Health, Pain Management, Travel Medicine, Skin Cancer Medicine, Men’s Health, Paediatrics and Preventative Health. He completed a Neuropsychology Honours Degree at Otago University NZ, then a Medical Degree in Auckland, with his residency in 2001 at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown Sydney.
He has worked in both public and private hospitals in Rehabilitation, Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, Coronary Care and Psychiatry. As a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, he enjoys combining his experience in both the private and public hospital system across a range of specialties.
Patrick views the doctor-patient relationship as a partnership to educate and empower people to make positive decisions for their future health, including any current illness.
His interests include music, art, rugby, and fishing. He is made better by his son and wonderful partner.
Dr. John Delaney
Dr Delaney joined the practice in July 2018, working Wednesday and Thursday mornings. He has a special interest in skin cancer medicine.
Dr. Derek Hadwen
MBBS, FRACGP, DCH
Dr Hadwen joined the practice in May 2018. Dr Hadwen trained in General Practice, has extensive hospital experience including Mona Vale Hospital Emergency Department and Gosford Private Hospital Rehabilitation Unit, and was a Senior Medical Officer with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and has a Diploma of Child Health
Dr. Nikki Heginbotham
Dr Heginbotham returned from Maternity leave in May 2018 and predominantly works Wednesdays, Fridays and alternate Saturdays.
Dr. Heidi Howard-Griffin
MBChB, MRCGP, FRACGP, DRCOG, DSFRH
Dr Howard-Griffin joined the practice in May 2019.
Having obtained her medical degree in the UK, at the University of Birmingham, she then went on to complete her General Practice training in central London. During this time she also completed post-graduate diplomas in women’s health and sexual health medicine.
She is an experienced GP who enjoys all aspect of general practice including paediatrics, women’s health, sexual health and general medicine. She also has a keen interest in undergraduate medical teaching.
She will be working in the practice on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Dr. Alma Jackmann
MBBS FRACGP, AMC, Cert Fam Planning
Dr Alma Jackman graduated from the University of Sarajevo. She is a Fellow of Royal Australian College of General Practitioners since 2013 and also completed her Australian Certificate in Family Planning and Sexual Health.
She has special interests in Women’s Health, Paediatrics and Mental Health.
Dr Jackman consults on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and one in three Saturdays.
Dr Jackman is fluent in English, Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian.
Dr. Alexandra Mole
MBChB, FRACGP, Dip Trop Med, Dip Child Health, Cert Family Planning
Dr Mole joined the practice in early August 2017.
Alexandra’s interests include general medicine, women’s health, family planning & sexual health, paediatrics, travel medicine and mental health. She completed her medical degree in the UK before moving to Australia and working in Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynaecology prior to commencing GP training and becoming a member of the Royal College of Australian General Practitioners.
She has completed post graduate diplomas in Child Health and Tropical Medicine & Infectious Diseases; she has also completed her Australian Certificate of Family Planning & Sexual Health. Alexandra enjoys teaching and supporting the doctors of tomorrow and has been appointed a Conjoint Lecturer at the University of New South Wales. She is keen to help maintain these high clinical standards through practicing evidence based medicine and may at times have junior doctors or medical students accompany her, with patients prior consent.
Alexandra loves working in general practice and is compassionate, approachable and enthusiastic about continuity of care for each individual and their family
Dr Alexandra Mole consults for full days on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and mornings only on Friday
Dr. Deirdre O’Dea
Dr O’Dea does not take New Patients.
Dr O’Dea will be retiring in November 2020 and will work on handing over the care of her existing patients in the coming months.
Dr. O’Dea is a Graduate of the UNSW, and a Fellow of the College of GPs. She has a certificate in Family Planning and is an examiner for the Australian Medical Council. Deirdre enjoys teaching and regularly has Sydney University Medical Students. Deirdre’s special interests include family, women and children’s health, including shared antenatal care.
Dr. O’Dea works Tuesday and Fridays.
Dr. Tim Sutherland
Dr. Sutherland is an Honors Graduate of Sydney University. He enjoys a full range of patient care with a special interest in Internal Medicine. He is married, with three children and two dogs. His other interests are beach fishing and gardening.

Dr. Nicholas Walder
MBChB, MRCGP, FRACGP
Dr Walder is an experienced GP who re-joins the practice having worked here previously. He completed his medical and specialist training in London but now lives in Sydney with his wife and 2 young daughters.
Dr Walder enjoys all aspects of general practice but particularly enjoys paediatrics, orthopaedics and sports medicine.
Dr Walder has a special interest in Men’s Health, in particular erectile problems and the management of prostate disease. Whilst in the London he spent time in a world-leading men’s health clinic, at the University College Hospital London, developing his interest.
Away from work Dr Walder enjoys spending time with his family and is a keen sportsman enjoying long distance running, rugby and golf.
Dr Walder will be working on a full time basis and is also involved in undergraduate medical teaching.
Dr. Xian Xu
Dr Xu consults on Sunday mornings at present, and will commence Saturdays 9a-5pm from the 2nd of June 2018.
APA Sports Physiotherapist
Tom is one of the most highly qualified and experienced physiotherapists on the Northern Beaches. He completed a degree of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) at Sydney University in 2010 before going on to complete a Masters of Sports Physiotherapy at University of Queensland in 2014. Tom is currently a contractor to Cricket NSW players and has previously been involved with rugby league, netball and swimming Australia wide.
Tom can help with rehabilitation of low back pain, hip, knee and ankle post-surgical programs, sports injuries, osteoarthritis and adolescent ailments

David has practiced in Balgowlah for over 35 years (originally at 413A Sydney Road). David first joined the Qualitas Health group at Woodland Street Allied Health Centre in 2017 before joining the Sydney Road Family Medical Practice team in Jan 2020.
David is excited about the opportunity to practice within a multi-disciplinary team and to focus on progressing research he has been passionate about over recent years.
Larissa is an enthusiastic, friendly and approachable Dietitian She is a great listener with a passion for helping individuals make positive, sustainable changes to their health over the long term.
During Larissa’s studies and clinical placements, she developed experience in the nutritional management for oncology, IBS (FODMAPs), orthopedic surgery, COPD, spinal cord injury and malnutrition. Larissa has also provided a number of sessions to small groups educating clients living with lung disease and heart disease.
Larissa’s warm and easy-going manner allows her to engage quickly with clients of all ages. She places an emphasis on collaborating with clients and empowering them to achieve their health goals. Larissa provides personalised, simple and evidence-based nutrition information, tailored to the needs of her clients.
Larissa’s inspiration as a Dietitian is based from a life-long interest in how a healthy diet can positively affect many health outcomes, and it is this enthusiasm she hopes to share with her clients. Larissa enjoys modifying popular recipes to a more plant based style and trying new supermarket finds. Larissa enjoys weight-training, bush hiking, swimming fast, bike riding and playing team-sports in her free time!
